Cutlery collections "Taika" - design Ron Arad

It is as if gravity no longer exists. The knife, fork and spoon seem to float above the table. They keep their balance on a minimal base surface. As soon as a part of it is touched it starts to bob up and down. The dance begins. All this describes “Pirouette”, the cutlery created for WMF by the internationally renowned designer and architect, Ron Arad. “Piroutee”is an invitation to play. This is how lively, creative forms of communication are created. It needs motion and cheekily defies good manners. It breaks with long established conventions and instead a new approach to the theme of dining emerges.

With “Pirouette” WMF is setting off down an experimental path. “As an innovative brand and one of the leading manufacturers of cutlery internationally we wish to show that visions can also be coupled with an article of daily use like cutlery,” said the head of WMF Product Development, Achim Bölster.

Ron Arad is truly unconventional, that is what the designer is known for. In his designs the boundary between sculpture and an article of daily use is often difficult to distinguish. Movement typifies his objects. Soft lines give the shape a very dynamic direction. On being asked what design means to him, Ron Arad answers quite succinctly, “There are only two categories that interest me, boring or interesting!
Thus his cutlery vision “Pirouette” appears quite logical. For what could be more interesting than cutlery that dances.
