(THE IMPORTANCE OF THE GLASS IN TASTING) With the of quality craft beers, unfiltered and non pasteurised, alive and rich in perfumes and flavours, the glass became a decisive factor in grasping their alfactory-taste complexity. Certain fundamental features are valid for all glasses: they must be made af adourless, uncoloured glass, whereas the shape varies in accordance with the different types of beer. The basic equipment for a tasting or a meal consist of five types of beer and therefore five types of glass.
THE LONG STEM CONE-SHAPED GLASS, which avoids heating the contents with the fingers, deleterius inasmuch as this accelerates a gradual dispersion of the delicate perfumes. This glass is perfect for light, clear and dry beer such as Czech and German Pils, to be served at a low temperature (about 7-8°C). Also ideal as an elegant aperitif or to accompany fish dishes, fried dishes and light- flavoured pasta and rice dishes.
THE FLARED TULIP GLASS fir Belgian Tripel and Golden Ales, excellent for strong and complex beers, favouring the formation of abundant foam and the opening up of an aromatic range rich in alluring perfumes. Just right for a spicy "bière blanche" with pasta and vegetables, for a bitter and perfumed "bière saison" with radicchio risotto and doft cheese, but also for a "dark smoky" beer with the classic spaghetti alla crbonarra. The same ecletic glass is also suitable for "golden ales" that accompany withe meat dishes - chichen, veal and rabbit - as dishes based on red meat.
GLASS for the strong Trappiste and Abbazia beers, with their rich bouquet, aromatic and complex, ready to explode: with a broad surface to favor oxygenising and consequently greater development of the perfumes. Excellent with a wide variety of cakes and dessert, especially with custard and chocolate.
THE TALL AND THRUSTING WEIZEN GLASS is best for the very foamy Bavarian wheat beers: capacious in order to hold the great white "chapeau" that is typical of this interesting and much-loved beer which goes well with beef sausage and with top quality fish dressed with lemon and mayonnaise.
THE TRUNCATED CONE GLASS for the classic "PINT" of british Real Ale. This glass inhibits the formation of unwnated foam. Ideal for red meat dishes.
